IWMS Diploma / Teachers’ Exams

The following examinations are conducted by the Institute of Western Music & Speech (IWMS) .

SPEECH & DRAMA

  1. Candidates may present themselves for TEACHER’S, PERFORMER’S OR RECITAL Diploma Examinations.
  2. Candidates for the Associate Diploma should be at least 17 years of age at the time of entry.
  3. The examination for Associate(Recital) does not include written work.
  4. The examination for Associate is in two parts (Practical and Written). The examination for Licentiate is in three parts (Practical and Written- Paper I Paper 2). Candidates who have failed in one part are permitted to re-enter only the part in which they have failed.
    i.e. A candidate should complete the examinations mentioned to be entitled to the DIPLOMA Certificate and on
    completion should request for the certificate. Three calendar years from the date of issue of the first successful
    the result is allowed, after which the candidate is required to sit the whole examination again.
  5. In the compilation of their programmes candidates are required to contrast period, style and form and to demonstrate
    in performance, the different techniques involved when acting and when speaking lyrical verse, narrative verse or
    prose. Marks will be awarded for the quality and range of the material presented which must be related to the
    standard of the examination.

SPOKEN ENGLISH ASSOCIATE / LICENCIATE

  1. Candidates for the Associate Diploma should be at least 17 years of age at the time of entry.
  2. The examination of the Associate Diploma is in two parts. The examination of the Licentiate Diploma is in four parts. Candidates who have failed one or more parts are permitted to retake only those parts in which they have failed. If they have not passed all parts of the examination within three years of the issue of the first successful result, they are required to repeat all parts again.

DIPLOMA EXAMINATIONS -MUSIC

  1. A candidate should complete the examinations mentioned to be entitled to the DIPLOMA Certificate and on completion should request for the certificate. Four calendar years from the date of issue of the first successful result are allowed, after which the candidate is requested to sit the whole examination again.
  2. On completion, the candidate should produce his/ her report sheets of the qualifying examinations to the Director Administration for perusal in order to obtain the Diploma
    certificate.
  3. 70 out of 100 marks are required to pass in the Music Practical and 70 out of 100 marks for each of the written examinations
  4. Any edition may be used, but not arrangements.
  5. To attempt L.I.W.M.S. candidates should have passed A.I.W.M.S. examinations.
  6. Age Limit

  7. Candidates for the Teacher Diploma Examinations should be at least 17 years of age on or before the last day of entry. There is no age limit for Performer Diploma.
  8. Diploma candidates are required to present their programme when acknowledging the receipt of the admission card.
  9. Diploma pianoforte candidates are permitted to try out the piano only ONCE prior to the date of examination. Candidates are requested to contact the Examinations Unit for a date and time. (Only the teacher will be permitted at the practice session which will last 45 minutes.)

Certificate of proficiency in teaching English

CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN TEACHING ENGLISH
Level – I Practical / Theory
Level – II Practical / Theory

  1. These examinations for teachers will enable them to obtain a certificate of proficiency for the teaching of Music / English based on the IWMS syllabus, which will allow them to use the letters CPTM-I, CPTM-II, CPTE –I, CPTE – II on completion of the relevant examinations.
  2. Candidate for the above examinations should be at least 17 years of age at the time of entry.
  3. 70 out of 100 marks is required to pass the practical and written Examinations.
  4. Two calendar years from the date of the first successful result are allowed after which the candidate is requested to sit the whole examination.

Certificate of proficiency in teaching Music

  5. Qualifying Exams:
    1. To sit CPTM Level I the candidate should have passed Grade V Music Theory exam.
    2. To attempt CPTM Level II the candidate should have passed CPTM I
